Brittany Willis, Administrative Intern - Mentee Intake

I am from Burlington, NC. I graduated from UNC-Greensboro with a Bachelor's Degree in Communication Studies. I started off with SHIELD Mentor Program as an intern. I fell in love with the program on day one! I continue to volunteer because I believe that a lot of the change our kids need in the community can start with us. Kids need more positive influence and SHIELD offers that!

Chantal Jones, Public Relations/Marketing Coordinator

My name is Chantal Jones, a graduating senior at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. I am majoring in Business Administration with a concentration in Entrepreneurship also with a minor in Public Relations. I am volunteering with SHIELD because I have a passion for social entrepreneurship, and influencing the lives of others with knowledge I have acquired throughout my life. I want to add value not only to this new organization, but to the lives of the youth and their families by encouraging them of a bright future ahead.

"Kia" Gawaynea Tinsley, Technical Intern

I am graduate of UNCG.  I majored in Information Systems and Operations Management.  The reason I became involved with SHIELD Mentor Program is because I was looking for an internship dealing with my major in some way to gain more experience.  I also love helping out whenever and where ever I can.  I have always been interested in web and graphic design since I was about 14 years old.  I had my own sites for my favorite music artists and made my own layouts for myself and friends to use on social networking sites.  SHIELD Mentor Program is an awesome organization to volunteer for and I wish there was an organization like this in my small community when I was growing up.

Islamiat (Izzy) Adamoh-Faniyah, Leadership Team

I am a junior at UNCG majoring in Speech Pathology and Psychology.  I am originally from Washington, DC and grew up in a low income area.  My childhood molded me into the person I am today.  I grew up seeing the effects of negative peer pressure on youth.  Luckily I had a great support system and overcame the negative influences surrounging me.  I feel youth should have the opportunity to be surrounded by supportive adults that want to see them succeed.

Latia Holland, Leadership Team/Mentor

I am currently a junior at UNC Greensboro majoring in Public Health with a concentration in Health Studies. Growing up I did not have a set mentor but I did have individuals around me that were positive influences. I feel it is important for everyone to have someone they can come to when in need of advice or even just friendship. I feel that the youth in today’s society needs someone there for them now more than ever and Shield is a great way of reaching those youth.

Latisha Scarborough, Leadership Team

I am a Junior at UNC-G currently majoring in International Business Studies with a double minor in Spanish and ISOM.  Although, I am new to SHIELD I feel like I have been involved for years.  I have had mentors in my life and they have dramatically enhanced my life goals as well as my career goals.  I look forward to meeting all of the new mentors and mentees.  Great things will come to those who wait and believe.

Latoya Bush, Events Coordinator

I attend UNC Greensboro as a business administration major with a concentration in Human Resources.  I became involved with SHIELD as an Intern and I have learned a lot about the community and the youth thus far.  Along with being an intern, I also mentor.  I am very happy to be involved with SHIELD and their goals for the community.  I will continue to support SHIELD and you should do the same!

Sanders Glenn, Mentor/Intake Volunteer

I joined SHIELD to lead and direct youth down a path that will give them the most knowledge on how to live a fulfilling life and to help others around them. When I was a child I had people in my life who helped make the transition from being a child to a young adult easier. I want the youth I encounter to have the same privilege.

Nicole Griffin,

I'm a senior at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. I'm currently studying Sociology with a concentration in Global Social Problems and I'm also studying Political Science. I chose my majors because I desire to work in the humanitarian field as a philanthropist.  I chose to work with SHIELD because it is focused on helping people, in this case teens, who are vulnerable. Helping people is my passion and SHIELD enables me to do such! Not only will this organization prepare me to work with teens in other nations, but it also teaches me the power of community!

Taisa Willoughby,

I am a senior at UNC Greensboro and an art major with a concentration in design.  In addition to real-world graphic design experience, I want to positively impact someone else's life.  I have volunteered in the past and it is a rewarding opportunity.

Tyra Willoughby,

I am from Greenville NC.  I am a senior at the University of North Carolina-Greensboro and I am majoring in Art with a concentration in Design.  I was originally interested in mentoring but was blessed with the opportunity to intern for SHIELD.  What SHIELD is doing is wonderful for the community and I look forward to seeing how the area is going to be impacted in the future.
