Programs

SHIELD operates a multi-modal mentoring dynamic in which youth can spend time engaged in constructive and meaningful programs built towards their development through the integration of online mentoring, group mentoring, and peer mentoring, which enables youth to receive greater positive influence from more than one individual.  Mentors will help youth discover leadership through the following programs and activities offered:

Group Mentoring Sessions. Group mentoring offers a mentoring dynamic where positive reinforcement takes place with a group of peers and adult role models sharing life experiences.  In this setting both positive peer pressure and positive adult reinforcement are combined.  SHIELD gives middle and high school youths the opportunity to attend group mentoring workshops to prevent youth from making poor life decisions, engage them into constructive activities and enhance a positive future through an environment that is exciting, inspirational, engaging and educational.  (Learn more)

Peer Mentors are eligible, highly trained youth ages 16-18 that have successfully completed peer mentor leadership training.  Peer Mentors help mentees become more confident in their leadership ability and find their strengths in order to draw them out.

Telling My Story is an opportunity for youth to hear real life stories from adults who are willing to share their life stories to change the lives of youth.  SHIELD Mentor Program invites guest speakers to reach out to the youth by sharing their story about how they may have changed their life around from failures or destructive behaviors such as gang activity, drugs, abuse, depression, and etc.  It is also an opportunity for youth to hear real life stories about successes from entrepreneurs, college graduates and professionals to talk about how they have obtained their life goals and aspirations.  These workshops give youth practical life stories from adults willing to share their life experiences.  If you are interested in being a guest speaker please contact us and tell us about yourself, why you want to share your story and how it will impact the lives of youth.
