Become a Mentor
The SHIELD Mentor Program of Greensboro, NC helps to empower youth in our community to make positive life choices that enable them to maximize their potential. The mentoring program uses volunteer mentors to supporting, guiding, and being a trusted friend to a young person for a period of at least one year. S/he helps to provide character building, leadership development, social skills, conflict resolution and decision-making skills to prevent youth from making poor life decisions and engage them into constructive activities. By becoming part of the social network of community role models and supporters who care about the youth, the mentor can help youth develop and reach positive personal goals. - Applicants must complete an online application that includes questions about their background, education, work experience, hobbies and interests, etc. See link below for application.
- They must complete initial training activities.
- Submit professional and personal references
- Pass a criminal record check (required by any agency that connects youth with adults)
Submitting an application does not guarantee being matched with a mentee, and if an applicant is not immediately matched, it is in no way a reflection of their abilities or credentials, but only the current needs of the program.
