Precious McKoy's Biography
Precious McKoy's
passion to provide youth with the leadership development skills that they
need to be successful in life by pursuing their personal goals and
dreams hit her at an early age while in high school working on her senior project. Youth Development and adolescent issues in particular has been something she has studied ever since. She is now the Founder and Executive
Director of the SHIELD Mentor Program (SHIELD), an organization that provides youth with a
full range of mentoring programs and services.
Precious knows a lot about being a leader and pursuing her
goals and dreams. As a teenager, she was an honor roll student and
received numerous awards for academic excellence throughout her school
years. She was also known for her athleticism, playing five sports:
track, tennis, volleyball, basketball and soccer. In 1997 she was
presented with the Presidents Award for Educational Excellence, signed by then
President Bill Clinton. Precious went on to hold several other roles
including “Who’s Who among American High School Students,” SGA President in her
senior year and held roles in the National Honors Society, National Beta Club
and DECA. She didn’t stop there. After graduating from high school,
Precious went on to Queens University of Charlotte where she earned a BA in
Business Marketing with a concentration in Corporate Communication &
Spanish. She was also recognized on the National Dean’s List and
awarded the Queens Scholar. These are the kinds of accomplishments she would like to help youth who have not yet discovered or unlocked their inner potentials reach.
Since college graduation and entering the workforce, Precious has continued to make an impact in the community. Precious currently sits on
committees in Greensboro including Reclaiming Futures and the Guilford Parent
Academy. She most recently has been named a “Change Agent” through
IMPACT Greensboro, a program that creates leaders who will engage in civic
opportunities. She also was awarded the Affiliate Award for Outstanding Service in 2010.
Precious has spoken at Black Child
Development’s Entering the College Zone, Alcohol Drug Services and Youth
Conferences, Smart Girls Workshop as well as the North Carolina Families United
Youth Leadership Program as a youth motivational speaker. She has
also spoken as a guest lecturer at the UNCG MPA Nonprofit Program.
Precious is married to Antonio McKoy, her
high school sweetheart and Co-Founder of the SHIELD Mentor Program and is the
proud mother of Antonio McKoy, Jr. (AJ). She is also currently completing her Masters Degree in
Non-Profit Management at High Point University.
