Precious McKoy's Biography

Precious McKoy's passion to provide youth with the leadership development skills that they need to be successful in life by pursuing their personal goals and dreams hit her at an early age while in high school working on her senior project.  Youth Development and adolescent issues in particular has been something she has studied ever since.  She is now the Founder and Executive Director of the SHIELD Mentor Program (SHIELD), an organization that provides youth with a full range of mentoring programs and services.

Precious knows a lot about being a leader and pursuing her goals and dreams.  As a teenager, she was an honor roll student and received numerous awards for academic excellence throughout her school years.  She was also known for her athleticism, playing five sports: track, tennis, volleyball, basketball and soccer.  In 1997 she was presented with the Presidents Award for Educational Excellence, signed by then President Bill Clinton.  Precious went on to hold several other roles including “Who’s Who among American High School Students,” SGA President in her senior year and held roles in the National Honors Society, National Beta Club and DECA. She didn’t stop there. After graduating from high school, Precious went on to Queens University of Charlotte where she earned a BA in Business Marketing with a concentration in Corporate Communication & Spanish.  She was also recognized on the National Dean’s List and awarded the Queens Scholar.  These are the kinds of accomplishments she would like to help youth who have not yet discovered or unlocked their inner potentials reach.

Since college graduation and entering the workforce, Precious has continued to make an impact in the community.  Precious currently sits on committees in Greensboro including Reclaiming Futures and the Guilford Parent Academy.  She most recently has been named a “Change Agent” through IMPACT Greensboro, a program that creates leaders who will engage in civic opportunities.  She also was awarded the Affiliate Award for Outstanding Service in 2010.

Precious has spoken at Black Child Development’s Entering the College Zone, Alcohol Drug Services and Youth Conferences, Smart Girls Workshop as well as the North Carolina Families United Youth Leadership Program as a youth motivational speaker.  She has also spoken as a guest lecturer at the UNCG MPA Nonprofit Program.

Precious is married to Antonio McKoy, her high school sweetheart and Co-Founder of the SHIELD Mentor Program and is the proud mother of Antonio McKoy, Jr. (AJ).  She is also currently completing her Masters Degree in Non-Profit Management at High Point University.
